Project description

Learn Biology

A collection of simple, beginner-friendly biology experiments that can be safely performed at home or in a small DIY lab using only BSL-1 organisms (yeast, onion tissues, plant cells).

This project brings together multiple small “hypotheses,” each representing a practical lab activity.

In this project, “hypotheses” are used to describe simple, easily reproducible labs. They are not scientific claims — just questions that can be tested through hands-on experiments.

In larger research projects on OpenResearch.bio, hypotheses represent actual scientific ideas that the community can test, refine, or refute through shared protocols and reproducible results.

The goal is to help new learners understand fundamental biological concepts by doing real hands-on experiments, with:

  • clear step-by-step protocols
  • simple, accessible materials
  • photos and notes
  • visible cell structures under an optical microscope
  • zero risk (strict BSL-1 conditions)

This project is ideal for:

  • self-learners
  • students
  • hobbyists
  • anyone curious about exploring the microscopic world safely
